TORONTO, Ontario (September 27th, 2023) – Rally-bred and track-proven, the GR Corolla is the hot hatch ready to make pulses race. New for 2024, Toyota Canada includes spec upgrades to both the Core model and limited production Circuit Edition.
“The GR Corolla is the real deal: Our third model worthy of our GR high performance badge, this hot hatch is engineered by the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team, track-tested by our master driver Akio Toyoda, and hand-built at our GR Motomachi factory,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “With 300 horsepower and an innovative all-wheel-drive system, this is not a vehicle for the timid – but a finely-crafted machine designed to thrill every Canadian driving enthusiast.”
Any vehicle that carries the GR logo must be designed and engineered for total performance. That’s why TOYOTA GAZOO Racing engineers and technicians prioritized power, handling, acceleration, and control. Under the hood, a turbocharged 1.6L 3-cylinder engine delivers a peak 300 horsepower and up to 273 lb-ft of torque. This is matched to a six-speed intelligent manual transmission with short throw lever and rev matching, engaged via a recessed button on the lower dash.
Power meets the pavement via a specially developed GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system. Developed in collaboration with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Championship team, this system delivers exceptional levels of traction and control by optimizing drive power to each wheel. With the twist of a dial, drivers can adjust the GR-FOUR’s performance – from 60:40 front:rear torque distribution for everyday driving, to 30:70 for maximum fun on winding roads, to 50:50 for maximum grip on the rally circuit.
Ever the perfectionists, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing engineering team continues to pay attention to the smallest details with updates to the chassis and tweaking of a front aeroduct for 2024. Material updates include mounting bolt changes to the steering gear, rear suspension, and battery ground. Aero updates include an addition of aluminum sheets to the front and rear bumpers, and a change in duct shape to the front bumper airflow outlet.
All GR Corolla models are built on the Toyota New Global Architecture-C platform (TNGA-C) – a super-rigid structure with a low centre of gravity. This, combined with circuit-tuned suspension systems, help maximize power deliver to all four wheels and provide optimum cornering capability on all surfaces.
Every GR Corolla comes with front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials. These offer enhanced cornering performance and grip control of left- and right-hand drive torque distribution on the front and rear axles.
Massive power requires equally massive braking – so the GR Corolla is fitted with opposed, four-piston aluminum fixed-caliper front disc brakes with ventilated and slotted rotors, and two-piston aluminum fixed-caliper disc brakes in the rear.
Performance informs the GR Corolla’s style, too. Body designers focused on minimizing weight and maximizing aerodynamics to unlock the full performance potential without compromising strength or safety. A muscular grille, wide track, and flaring rear wings emphasize the hot hatch’s low, planted silhouette.
Inside, the cockpit design has been crafted with input from professional rally drivers to put high performance within the driver’s reach. A 12.3” multi-information display gives drivers a clear view of gearshift position, tachometer, turbo pressure, and the GR meter with AWD mode, without losing sight of the road ahead. Heated sport seats support and embrace driver and navigator when the G Forces ramp up.
Every GR Corolla puts intuitive technology at the driver’s fingertips – and voice. The Toyota Multimedia system is a bundle of smart connectivity technologies that keep drivers informed and safe while simplifying their lives behind the wheel. The system integrates wirelessly with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features Toyota’s newest interface, which improves interaction between people and vehicle through sight, touch, and voice. Many functions may be controlled via the touch screen via the same gestures used on mobile phone screens. Both GR Corolla models feature Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect, while the Circuit Edition is also factory equipped with Drive Connect.
Every GR Corolla also comes with an impressive package of safety features headlined by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 – the newest configuration of Toyota’s suite of active safety technologies and capabilities that supports driver awareness and decision making to help reduce the potential for accidents. Other standard safety features include a backup camera, 10 airbags, the Blind Spot Monitor System with Safe Exit Assist, and an anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer.
This year, Canadians shopping for a GR Corolla hot hatch can choose from a pair of unique configurations, as follows:
The 2024 Toyota GR Corolla Core features the Toyota Multimedia system with 8” touch screen display and eight speakers, 18” black alloy wheels, heated front sport seats, GR sport fabric upholstery, keyless entry, LED headlamps and daytime running lights, fog lamps, automatic climate control, two USB-C charging ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a tire repair kit. New for 2024, this model gets an extra shot of street-cred style with red painted brake calipers.
The 2024 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition builds on the Core configuration with several upgrades. Inside, this model’s upgrades include an eight-speaker JBL Premium Audio system, GR sport suede upholstery with blue accent stitching, a heated steering wheel, shift knob with blue accent, and a wireless charging system for compatible smart phones.
